The Victorian Adult Literacy and Basic Education Council (VALBEC) publishes its journal, Fine Print, three times a year. Two of our teachers, Natalie Nawrocki and Marcella O’Conner, recently had an article published in Fine Print about our ‘Welcome to the Library’ project. ‘Welcome to the Library’ is a reader and rap song video for people with low literacy. It tells people about local libraries and encourages them to visit. The reader comes with a teacher resource kit, which can be used in adult education settings, including the English language classroom.
Marcella and Natalie have written an informative article for Fine Print about the project, the funding and our successful collaboration with the City of Melton Libraries. It showcases how our teachers are taking their adult literacy expertise ‘out of the classroom and into the community’.
Fine Print have kindly given us permission to share the article so you can read the text here.
