Visit to the Shrine of Remembrance for ANZAC Day

Three SEE classes from Sunshine visited the Shrine of Remembrance yesterday so that the students could better understand the importance of ANZAC Day in Australia. Most of these students are recent arrivals and may have very little understanding of the ANZAC story. This was their first visit to the Shrine for many students.

The students visited the Shrine and listened to a presentation by the Shrine staff. The information on the Vietnam war was particularly interesting as many of the students come from Vietnam.Shrine1

As a follow up activity in the classroom some of the students have written letters to Australian soldiers.

I felt very respectful for all our soldiers who sacrificed their lives to give us peace and freedom. “Lest we forget.” Thank you very much for your bravery.
