Originally from the region of Gippsland, Irene was born and raised on a dairy farm, working alongside her family in the country. She was not able to attend school regularly and this impacted her reading and writing skills. Later in life, Irene moved to Melbourne and decided to build on her language, literacy and numeracy skills as an adult.
“I started the SEE program in 2013 and am happy with my learning progress. I learnt new words and learnt how to put them in sentences”, shared Irene.
The SEE program has paved a pathway for Irene into employment. She recently applied for a job at a local shopping centre and was one of only two successful applicants. Irene is currently anticipating the start of her new job.
“I was nervous but confident. I always try and never give up. Slowly but surely,” said Irene.
“Also, the teacher never gives up on us. I made many friends from different cultures and we help each other in the class,” added Irene.
